The operation

An established underground hard rock operation in Western Australia, with a technical services team that is still growing.

The role

A senior seat in the underground technical services team, reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent. You lead geotechnical risk management, own the ground control standards, and give geotechnical input into mine planning and design.

The role carries genuine technical ownership rather than support work, and comes with mentoring responsibility for the junior geotechnical engineers in the team.

Key duties

  1. Lead operational geotechnical risk management, production support and hazard reporting underground
  2. Own the implementation and ongoing management of ground control standards for underground workings
  3. Oversee geotechnical monitoring systems from design and implementation through to analysis and reporting
  4. Conduct rockmass mapping, structural model reconciliation and maintain the geotechnical databases
  5. Undertake stability and numerical modelling using FLAC3D, Map3D, Deswik or similar
  6. Provide geotechnical input into short and medium term mine planning, development standards and ground support design
  7. Drive design performance reviews and compliance reporting
  8. Support and coordinate geotechnical drilling programs including drill hole design and data management
  9. Deliver geotechnical awareness training across site and mentor junior geotechnical engineers

What you will need

  • Tertiary qualification in geotechnical, mining or civil engineering, or engineering geology
  • Minimum seven years in geotechnical engineering with significant underground hard rock exposure
  • Proven track record in geotechnical risk management, ground control design and monitoring
  • Strong competency in numerical modelling with FLAC3D, Map3D, Deswik or similar
  • Experience in geological modelling, database management and structural analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior engineers
  • C class driver’s licence and a national police clearance obtained within the last six months
  • Full Australian working rights
