Senior Field Technician – Exploration

The operation

An exploration business running active discovery programs in Western Australia. Drilling runs across multiple projects and the field services team is being built out as those programs expand.

The role

A senior seat in the field services team, leading crews in the field while staying hands on with the sampling and core work yourself. You coordinate people and resources against the drill schedule, supervise the earthworks contractors, and carry the mentoring load for the technicians coming up behind you.

The role reports to the Senior Field Supervisor and plans a day to a month ahead. It suits an experienced field technician who wants the step up into running a crew without leaving the work itself behind.

Key duties

1. Lead daily pre-starts and weekly safety meetings, and keep risk assessments, VOCs and vehicle checks current
2. Coordinate field crews, rosters, leave, contractors and labour hire against project priorities
3. Allocate resources for diamond core orientation, mark up, processing, cutting and QAQC sampling
4. Coordinate RC and aircore QAQC sampling, and dispatch samples within seven days of drilling
5. Maintain the core, chip and pulp libraries, and validate sample submission data with the laboratories
6. Supervise earthworks contractors across drill pads, access tracks and rehabilitation
7. Keep earthworks data current and audit completed work for DMIRS compliance
8. Mentor and train field technicians in sampling, fly camp set up and core processing

What you will need

• At least five years in a field assistant or senior field assistant role
• Hands on RC, diamond and aircore sampling experience
• Current Advanced First Aid
• Current C class driver’s licence, HR class preferred
• Operate and Maintain 4WD training or equivalent
• Forklift licence preferred
• Good computer skills, Excel and ideally a GIS package
