Senior Field Technician – Drill Support

The operation

A Western Australian exploration program with several rigs turning across a large tenement package. Field services sits between the geology team and the drilling contractors, and is the reason the program holds its schedule.

The role

You run the field services crew that supports the drill program. That covers pad and access track preparation, the earthworks contractors who build them, rehabilitation once a hole is finished, and the sample chain that follows the rig.

The seat reports to the Senior Field Supervisor. Planning runs from the next shift out to the next month, and the crew takes its lead from you on how the work is set up and how safely it gets done.

Key duties

1. Plan and supervise the earthworks contractors across drill pads, access tracks and rehabilitation
2. Keep earthworks records current and audit finished ground against DMIRS requirements
3. Build the crew roster and cover plan around the rig schedule, including contractors and labour hire
4. Run pre-starts and weekly safety meetings, and keep risk assessments, VOCs and vehicle checks in date
5. Set up and run fly camps where the program moves away from the main site
6. Oversee RC and aircore QAQC sampling and get samples away inside seven days of drilling
7. Allocate people to diamond core orientation, mark up, cutting and processing
8. Hold the core, chip and pulp libraries in order and reconcile submissions with the laboratories
9. Bring technicians up through sampling, camp set up and core processing

What you will need

• Five years or more in field assistant or senior field assistant work
• Practical RC, diamond and aircore sampling background
• Current Advanced First Aid
• Current C class driver’s licence, HR class an advantage
• Operate and Maintain 4WD training, or equivalent
• Forklift ticket an advantage
• Comfortable in Excel, and a GIS package if you have one
