Senior Exploration Geologist – Goldfields
Lead the exploration effort on the ground for a privately owned, well funded WA gold business, running the crew and owning delivery of the drilling and sampling plan.
The operation
A privately owned Western Australian gold business working a tenement package in the Goldfields. Being private and well funded means there is no quarterly reporting cycle and no share price setting the exploration calendar, so programs get run on their geological merits and the team is built for the long term rather than for the next announcement.
The role
A senior seat leading the exploration effort on the ground. You report to the Head of Exploration, run the crew day to day, and own delivery of the drilling and sampling plan rather than executing someone else’s.
The work is hands on and field based on an 8/6 FIFO roster out of Perth. It suits an experienced exploration geologist with solid Archean gold behind them who wants the step into running a team without leaving the field.
The package is base plus super, with a bonus, private health cover and salary packaging options on top. Camp is near new, with a gym and in house catering.
Key duties
- Plan reconnaissance and sampling activity with the Head of Exploration, then oversee it through to execution
- Supervise drill staff, contractors and the exploration activity around them
- Run the crew day to day and carry accountability for the outputs of the exploration division
- Coordinate the flow of data back to the Head of Exploration and support interpretation where needed
- Make sure sampling programs run accurately, on budget and against the objectives set in the drilling plan
- Identify additional data worth acquiring and interpreting to sharpen the picture across the tenement package
What you will need
- BSc in Geology or equivalent
- Minimum six years as an Exploration Geologist, with a significant portion of it in Archean gold
- Proficiency with GIS and 3D modelling software and database systems, Leapfrog highly desirable
- Strong grasp of QAQC procedures, drilling and sampling practice, and standard gold industry laboratory analytical methods
- Exposure to emerging exploration technologies
- Unrestricted Australian manual driver’s licence
- Current national police clearance
- Able to pass a pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol screen
